One of the most powerful opportunities our ministry has is to go into the prisons and jails and share the message of salvation, hope, and the love of the Lord. We encourage the men and women behind bars that God STILL has a plan for their lives, even while they are doing time. We also do our best to help prepare them for their day of release. Therefore, our ministry continues after they have served their time.

We partner with several ministries such as Purpose for Your Life Centre to assist the men and women who have served time to successfully transition back into society. Assistance includes finding a residence, employment, and reintegrating back into their families and communities. Many returning citizens (former inmates) are married, have children, and other loved ones whom will go through the time of transition with them and its not always easy.

Most ministries that assist returning citizens do so by helping to meet their essential needs. And when the returning citizen begins to earn a paycheck, their check goes toward the "need to haves" (i.e., rent, food, transportation, etc.). Most often, they are not in a position to obtain the "nice to haves" (furniture, electronics, cookware, etc.) and must rely upon donations.

 

God tells us that when we focus on Him and do all we can to make Him first, He gives us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). That promise from God is the cornerstone on which our "Heart's Desire" outreach has been founded. Heart's Desire exists to come alongside returning citizens to provide wish list items for them and their family members. We partner with other ministries to identify men and women who are successfully transitioning and would love to have certain items but cannot afford to purchase them.

 

This is Heart's Desire's first year and we are excited to have identified our first recipient. She served 14 years in prison and her children were only 1 and 3 when she was locked up. Praise God, she is home, reunited with her children and is working to restore her family.
